Dear Families

Welcome to the end of our first week of school. It is always exciting to welcome students and families into the building. Although summer is a busy place at JFK, having all the students in the building adds wonderful energy.

During pre-service, the entire staff participated in a full day of training about developmental trauma. This is an immense topic and a vital one for all schools. Throughout the year, we will be having three follow up trainings during three of our half day releases. It is vital that all the adults in the Winooski School District participate in these follow up trainings, just as they all participated in the full day training. Because of this, the three early release days when this training will occur means that there will not be any early release activities for students those three days. This means that all students must be picked up at 12:15 on the following early release days:

  1. October 18th
  2. December 13th
  3. February 14th

The other early release days there will be optional early release activities that families can sign students up for. Those early release dates are:

  1. September 13th
  2. November 8th
  3. January 10th
  4. March 14th
  5. May 9th

If you do not sign your student up for an early release activity for these days, then they should be picked up at 12:15. The early release sign up should be going home today.

We do have one other early release day on May 25th. There are no early release activities on this day.

This year, we are going to designate areas outside for pick up at the end of the day. We have a difficult time getting students out the door at JFK when there are a lot of families standing there waiting to meet their student(s). In addition, some students are being picked up by people without letting the teacher know. Here is where we are asking all students to go with their teacher and be picked up from that designated area. We are highly encouraging families to wait in the grade specific area to ease the congestion by the door which will allow students to exit more quickly and pick up to go more smoothly.

Kindergarten students are picked up in the main lobby. 1st – 4th graders will come out through the JFK Exit Doors and go right to their designated area. Students will be dismissed from their designated area. 5th-grade students will exit through the back of the building and walk along the side of the building to their designated spot, where students will be dismissed.

Have a great long weekend. We will see everyone Tuesday, September 5th at 8 am

Sara Raabe

JFK Principal
