Letter from Sara Raabe

Sarah Murphy and I have been working with Beth Wallace towards re-opening the JFK Everybody Wins! site next year. http://everybodywinsvermont.org/. Everybody Wins! Works with schools to match students with a mentor. The student and mentor have lunch together once a week and read together. This is a program that will be open to all students in Winooski. DJ Craig Mitchell, who graciously read stories for Everybody Wins! at Barnes & Noble in December, is excited by the possible Winooski site and has arranged for Everybody Wins! to be the beneficiary of brunch at Waterworks on Saturday, February 3rd from 11:30 to 2 pm. Craig would like to end the brunch with a storytime for children. Everybody Wins! is meeting to finalize the details, and we will send home flyers once we have them.
Our Winter Transportation Pilot began this past Tuesday, January 16th. It will run from January 16th through March 30th. There will be 2 buses, doing 2 morning runs each, at 2 different pick-up locations. The bus stops will be at O’Brien Community Center (OCC): 2 pickups-7:15 & 7:45 and Elm Street: 2 pickups-7:15 & 7:45. There are NO afternoon bus runs. In order to ensure that the winter transportation program is successful, Parents & Youth for Change are recruiting bus monitors to help with managing safe behavior for students while waiting and riding on the bus. For more information about how you can help, please contact: email@example.com
On January 26th, WOKO will be coming to our All School Assembly at JFK to kick off our Big Change Roundup event. This year, JFK will be running a T-Rex contest to raise money for the University of Vermont Children’s Hospital through the Big Change Roundup. Starting January 25th, there will be jars in the front office with staff members names on them. The staff member that raises the most money by February 21st has agreed to wear a T-Rex outfit for a day. There will be an All School Assembly on February 23rd to reveal the “winner”. All of the money raised supports patients and families at the University of Vermont Children’s Hospital. The children at UVM Children’s Hospital are more than just patients. They are our family, friends, neighbors, classmates, and a huge part of our community. Start saving your spare change to send to school with your student(s)!
Have a great weekend
