debra_laforceMy husband and I met at Winooski in 1969 while he was a sophomore and I was a freshmen. He went on to Lyndon State College to pursue a degree in PE and Health. He later went on to IBM where he is still employed. We have been married for thirsty -nine years. My sons also graduated from Winooski one in 1997 and the other in 2000. My older son was involved in music and track and my younger son was a standout athlete in football, basketball and baseball.

Education and Professional Experiences
I attended school in Winooski from kindergarten through 12th grade. I lived in Winooski from the time I born until just a few years ago.  I graduated from Trinity College in Burlington in 1976 and pursued my MBA from UVM during the late 1990’s.  I have been employed by the Winooski School District for the last 38 years. I found out This day was one of the happiest days of my life! I always wanted to come home and give back to the people and community that gave me a great education. I am presently a kindergarten teacher but I have also taught first and second grade.

What has been your greatest learning experience? (in or out of school)
My greatest learning experience is that ALL children can learn given the chance and support.

Who do you admire and why?
I admire my fellow colleague Lisa Goetz. I feel this way because I see the amount of work she puts into her classroom day after day and to her its not work it’s also her passion! I also appreciate and admire the extra-curricular activities she initiates so young children will get a chance to experience the arts through plays and journalism through their work on the elementary yearbook!

What do you love about your current WSD position and the WSD community?
I love everything about my position. It is not a job to me. It’s a passion of mine. I don’t think I will ever get tired of hearing about Uncle Ralph”s birthday or their sick bunny. I love Winooski! people who have lived here all their life do it because they love where they live! We are one square mile filled with caring people and friends that are like family!
