Friday Letter 9/30/16

Friday, January 30, 2016

Dear Families,

Next week is our sixth week of school. All of our teachers have been following The First Six Weeks of School from Responsive Classroom. The goals of The First Six Weeks are to:

  • Create a climate of warmth, inclusion, and safety
  • Teach classroom routines and behavior expectations
  • Help students get to know and care for the classroom and school environment
  • Establish expectations for academic work

Next week, as the last week of The First Six Weeks wraps up, students will be focusing on the final three skills to reach these goals:

  • Being an active member of the learning community
  • Being fully engaged academically
  • Becoming more self-sufficient

The program builds students stamina for the first six weeks. The weeks  grow from being focused on building a strong classroom and school community, to academic expectations. These skills are all vital for a successful year and support each other!

Our HEART monitor is full! The students and staff have done a fantastic job showing and acknowledging HEART over these first 5 weeks of school. We are busy planning our All School Celebration for early next week. It will be a surprise for students. We are looking for donations to make the celebration run smoothly. If you have any of the following laying around want anymore and could donate, that would be wonderful:

  • Bubble Machines
  • Tennis Rackets
  • Small baby pools
  • Bubble solution, Bubble wands
  • Straws and String
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Bendable wire
  • Fly swatters
  • Slotted Spoons
  • Mason Jar Lid Rings
  • Cookie Cutters
  • Hula Hoops
  • Dish Soap
  • Corn Syrup
  • Sand Pails
  • Plastic tubs

Have a great weekend!
