I am an avid runner and I enjoy running 8-10 miles a day. It is good for the mind, body, and soul!! I also love biking and hiking, and my husband Jim and I enjoy traveling to warm, sunny places!! Teaching has been my passion for most of my life. I’ve always wanted to work with children and one of my favorite things I enjoy is putting on theater productions with the children in Winooski. I love their happy smiles, excitement, and positive energy they feel when they are on stage performing. It’s a memory they will have forever! I also really love putting together yearbooks with the children so they have more happy memories of their days at JFK School!

Education and Professional Experiences
I was born in Illinois and I went to Glenbrook North High School. After graduation, I attended The University of Illinois in Urbana/Champaign and received my Bachelors of Science degree. I have my Master’s degree from National Lewis University in Evanston.

I taught 2nd and 3rd grade in Buffalo Grove, Illinois before moving to Vermont where I have taught here at JFK School for the past 13 years. I’ve taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade to many, many wonderful children!!

What has been your greatest learning experience? (in or out of school)
My greatest learning experience has been here in Winooski. I’ve learned new ways of teaching, I’ve learned about diverse cultures, and I’ve met so many wonderful educators. Each day I enter my classroom ready to help my students become lifelong learners while learning from them every day!

Who do you admire and why?
I admire the teachers here in Winooski. They are absolutely the greatest group of educators I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. They are so dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children. They motivate, challenge, and love these children with all their heart. They are so positive and happy and supportive to one another and it’s incredible to be part of such a wonderful group of people.

What do you love about your current WSD position and the WSD community?
I absolutely LOVE teaching here in Winooski because the children are so excited to learn! When children walk into my classroom, we “Enter With A Happy Heart” because “The World is our Classroom.” This is our school family and we take care of each other. We practice mindfulness and engage in real world opportunities as much as possible. I love the opportunity that Winooski gives me to have “Celebrations of Learning.” We have our “Celebration of Family,” we perform “The Nutcracker,” and we present a “Wax Museum.” In addition, the children have “Literature Character Day,” a “State Fair,” and their final presentation is called, “Character Matters.” Through these experiences, they build their confidence in speaking in front of an audience and they practice their reading fluency. I am very grateful to the Winooski Community for always supporting our schools. I love working closely with the parents of my students because when you work as a team, you can accomplish so much!!
