Winooski School District

Fair, and 31 °F | Feb 26th: No School

Petie Shea-Gamache

My husband and I have three grown, healthy, well-adjusted children. My hobbies include reading, gardening, swimming in Lake Champlain and snow shoeing any where I can find a patch of good snow.

Education and Professional Experiences
I graduated from Champlain College, worked at Medical Center Hospital of Vermont for seventeen years as a medical secretary, then raised a family. My current job title is supervisor of the Opportunity Room. The best and most important part of my job is the interactions I have every day with our wonderful students!! They make me smile and I am very proud that I get to share this city with them.

What has been your greatest learning experience? (in or out of school)
Understanding that children truly are resilient and want to succeed in spite of some very overwhelming odds against them.

Who do you admire and why?
ALL teachers, not only in this district, but anyone who has dedicated his/her life to helping our children learn. The modern-day teacher is much more than just the person at the front of the room. Today’s teacher has to be concerned with all aspects of a child’s life to ensure that he/she is providing “nutrition” to the body and soul of our youngsters.

What do you love about your current WSD position and the WSD community?
The close proximity I have with the students is the best part of this job. When I can help a struggling student turn his/her day around, it makes me smile.

Working in such a small school district affords all of us the opportunity to interact on a very personal level that I think leads to better working conditions.
