10/07/16 Friday Letter
Friday, October 7, 2016
It was another great, busy week at JFK. Wednesday was Walk to School Day. Staff met students and families at teh Rite Aid on Main Street, and we walked together to school with music provided by WMHS students! It was a wonderful way to start the day.
Wednesday afternoon, we had our first All School Celebration. Students filled the HEART monitor last week. Wednesday afternoon all 363 students spent a half hour in the sun blowing bubbles. There were kiddy pools and buckets full of bubble solution. Students made their own wands out of pipe cleaners, used straws to blow bubbles in clean milk cartons, and used tennis rackets, cookie cutters, and canning rings to make bubbles. It was a fun celebration. A huge thank you to all the families that donated items to be used during the celebration!
Exciting news, we will have an author visit on October 31st! Ammi-Joan Paquette will be doing two presentations. She present to K-2 at 8:45am, and 9:45 for 3-5 in the PAC. She will speak about her personal journey as an author of eight published books for young readers—with many more on the way! She will talk about the process of writing, editing, and publishing a book, share stories and anecdotes from her experiences, and encourage young readers—and writers!—to shoot for their stars in reaching for their own dreams.
And here’s her little bio blurb:
Ammi-Joan Paquette is the author of the Princess Juniper series, for which book #2, Princess Juniper of the Anju, is newly out this year. Her other books for young readers include Ghost in the House, Nowhere Girl, The Tiptoe Guide to Tracking Fairies / Mermaids, and Rules for Ghosting. She is the recipient of a PEN New England Discovery Award honor, and her books have been recognized with starred reviews and on a variety of “Best of the Year” lists. In her non-writing life, she is a senior literary agent with Erin Murphy Literary Agency, representing many top children’s and teen authors. Visit her on the web at www.ajpaquette.com
If you would like to pre-order a book, the next page is the order form. All pre-orders are due by October 14th.
Monday there is no school because it is Columbus Day. Tuesday there is no school in honor of Dussehra.
Have a great long weekend. We will see everyone back on Wednesday, October 12th at 8am
