It is hard to believe that it is the end of October already. Students and staff have settled into their routines and are working hard every day.
This week we had our first All School Morning Meeting. One Friday a month, the entire school gets together for Morning Meeting. Each month a different group runs morning meeting. This month the Leadership Team ran the All School Morning Meeting. Grade levels were paired together to do the greeting and activity. This monthly activity is a great way for our entire school to get together.
On Wednesday, October 26th sibling parent teacher conference sheets went home. They are due back on Monday, October 31st. Confirmation letters will go home on November 11th. Parent Teacher Conferences are on Monday November 21st.
This past week, our teachers began their work with Vermont Reads Institute from UVM. We have two consultants coming to JFK twice a month. Gayle Moskowitz will be working with our K-2 teachers 2 days a month, and Pam Chomsky-Higgins will be working with our 3-5 teachers twice a month. In addition, both consultants will be working with Jennifer Lapointe, our literacy coach, to sustain the work between their visits. Their goal is to support our teachers as they implement the reader’s’ workshop model along with the Lucy Calkins Reading Units of Study.
Monday is Halloween. We are fortunate to live in a community where there are safe opportunities for our children to enjoy Halloween, if your family chooses to celebrate this holiday. However many years ago JFK decided that it was not something that we celebrate during the school day – keeping that time intact for learning without the distraction of costumes and respecting those families who have chosen not to be part of this particular custom. Some classes may have an afternoon snack to share that families may choose to provide. If you do choose to send a snack in, please check with the teacher about any food allergies. Thanks for your understanding. We hope that those of you who do choose to celebrate outside of school enjoy a safe and wonderful holiday.
Have a great weekend.
