Dear Families

What a wacky weather week. Walking around the school on Monday it felt like July! It cooled off as the week went on. Next week still looks like it is going to be in the low 70’s most days even though it is the first week of October.

We are at the point in the First Six Weeks of School where the engaging academics start to increase. Classes have begun their starting math, reading and writing units. Each beginning unit builds upon itself, not only for the current year but for the following years at JFK. An example would be our beginning of the year reading units:

Kindergarten – What is reading? Why do we read?

1st Grade  – Building Good Reading Habits

2nd Grade – Reading Growth Spurt

3rd Grade – Building a reading life

4th Grade – Interpreting Characters-The Heart of the story

5th Grade – Analyzing Themes

As you can see, each beginning reading unit is designed to set the tone for the rest of the year. In addition, each year is built on the previous year knowledge and new learning in order to move students forward with their reading skills and knowledge.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Sara Raabe

JFK Principal
