JFK Afterschool Program Offerings
Session I September 7th – October 23, 2015
All programs meet from 3-4pm (unless otherwise noted).

Tuesday

Fall Read-a-loud  (K-2) Ms. Knowlton
Celebrate fall and create fun art projects connected to stories read aloud about the season. Learn what trees, animals and people do in autumn to get ready for winter.

Soccer Scrimmaging for Boys at Richards Park (2nd-5th) in Partnership with City of Winooski Parks and Recreation Ms. LaForce
Can’t get enough soccer? This offering is all about getting more game time in.  Drills and skills practice will be limited in order to give you more time to just play the game for fun! Students will be separated into groups based on their age/size to play soccer against their peers.  These classes are meant to complement the Youth Soccer Program that is being held on Saturdays.

Students will walk to Richards Park for this class. We ask parents who are picking up their children at 4 to pick up at Richards Park.  If your child is in the Thrive program, he/she child will be walk back to Winooski School with an adult to join the Thrive program.

Making Music with Violins (for grades 3-5) Ms. Wetmore
We are partnering with the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association to offer an exciting string program for students interested in learning how to play the violin.  This class meets two days a week (Tuesday and Thursday)

Group classes are a great way to be introduced to playing the violin.  Sessions will focus on the elements of violin technique and beginning violin melodies.  Violins are provided for those students who need them during the session.

4-H Tech Wizards Motion Commotion (for grades 3-5) Ms. Blair

Tech Wizards group will explore science and technology topics through hands on learning.  We will start off investigating the energy of motion and then explore other STEM topics.  This class begins in September and continues through the second session, which ends in December.

Wednesdays

Night Creatures (for grades K-2) Ms. Knowlton
As we settle downy to sleep each night, a whole world of animals is just waking up. Nocturnal animals like owls, bats and more are busy. Learn what they eat, where they live and how they communicate, while creating fun art activities.  There is no program on Wednesday, September 23rd.

Strategy Games (for grades 3-5) Ms. Wright
Join us every Wednesday to challenge yourself with a variety of strategy games.  Whether you like to work by yourself or with others, this class will get your creative juices flowing.  Come find out what “Chocolate fix”, “Rush Hour”, “Brick by Brick”, and “Swish” is all about.  Have fun with shapeometry and dice games! There is no program on Wednesday, September 23rd

Thursdays

Yoga (for grades K-2) Ms. Bryan
Breathe in, relax and come have some fun! Stretch your body and listen to some great stories as we move through our yoga poses. Be sure to bring your imagination as we learn to move and balance ourselves and become confident yogis!

Students in the Tuesday Violin class will also be enrolled in the Thursday class to give students another day to practice their skills.  We are excited to partner with the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association to give students the opportunity to learn how to play the Violins.  Violins are provided for those students who need them during the session.

Woodworking (for grades 4-5) Ms. Knowlton
Do you like to create things with your own two hands?  Come try out our woodworking class!  We will walk you through how to build your choice of five (new!) projects while showing you how to use tools like handsaws, tape measures, hammers, and hand planes.  After you complete your 1st project you can move onto new projects.  There are no power tools in this class, and no experience is necessary.  Learn more about us at: www.facebook.com/sawmillstudio
